The park includes a children's playground, three baseball fields and Larkyn Memorial Arena in addition to hiking areas. Larkyn Memorial Arena is an equestrian center utilized by horse riders throughout the North Valley. The Arena is available for lease for equestrian events. Contact Peggy Biegler at 623-465-0726 for leasing information.
New River Kiwanis sponsors the Terrific Kids program at New River Elementary School. This program recognizes fourth grade students who their teachers feel have achieved their goals in an exemplary manner. Students receive a $50 savings bond, a certificate, t-shirt, bumper sticker and recognition before the entire student body. Club members also volunteer at the school tutoring students and helping with other programs.
The Club also sponsors the Builders Club of New River. This community based organization is the first of its kind in the world. Involvement with this group of enthuiastic young people has brought a new level of commitment to the community.
The New River Kiwanis also sponsors the New River Senior Center. Thanks to the work of several dedicated Kiwanis, grants were received from HUD, CDAC and Maricopa County to finance construction of a beautiful new building to house the Senior Center. The Area Agency on Aging provides budgetary support for the Center. Programming for Seniors includes daily activities, wellness checks, trips to area events, transportation to doctor's appointments, home meal service for house bound Seniors and daily lunches for Seniors. The most important thing the Center offers Seniors is daily companionship, support and interaction with others. Contact the Director, Barbara Terwilliger, at 623-465-0367 for additional information on activities or services.
